Noble Mayombo, Tuesday 1st May at Aga Khan Hospital Nairobi. Brig Mayombo was first admitted to Relatives believe his death was caused by damage to his pancreas but within minutes of Mayombo's death there are calls for a full investigation into the actual cause of death. The calls for investigation came against the backdrop of rumors that he died of poisoning. Reliable security sources that had been monitoring Mayombo's situation since Thursday told that "there were strong leads to suggest foul play." Doctors in The extent of damage to the internal organs made it impossible to carry out an operation. Mayombo was flown to The body was moved from the Life of Mayombo Mayombo's father is the Rev. Canon James Rabwoni; brothers Phillip Winyi and Okwiri Rabwoni and sister, Gertrude Katuramu. He is survived by a widow and children. He went to He later did a master in Law (Human Rights) at the same University. Mayombo joined the NRA bush war in its last year, 1985, but was quickly noticed by the commander because of his brilliance and fearlessness and rose fast through the ranks. At the time of his death, he has been the board chairman of the The New Vision Company. Defence and army spokesman, Maj. Felix Kulayigye described the late Mayombo as, "a very dedicated Ugandan, a rising star." Maj. Kulayigye said Mayombo was an honest, dedicated, friendly and an officer who was never obsessed with his rank. Days before his death, Mayombo paid a six-and-a-half year old debt to the family by returning his young brother Maj Okwiri Rabwoni from exile. Maj. Rabwoni was forced into exile in early in 2001 on account of supporting Col. Besigye who was vying for presidency against Mayombo's boss, President Yoweri Museveni. Say about Mayombo Throughout his military and public life, Noble Mayombo has interacted with many people, some pleasantly, a few not. They gave their spontaneous reactions when news of the Brigadier’s death reached Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Kizza Besigye knew Brig. Mayombo when he was a young boy coming out of the university in 1985. He came to join the struggle and he was a brilliant boy, very articulate in argument and expression. He was a very pleasant person who actually liked joking a lot.
Besigye adds that system misused his talent that, unfortunately, will determine his legacy…especially the viciousness with which the military intelligence, which he headed, dealt with members of the political opposition.
The inspector General of police (IGP) Kale Kayihura conned it to be a blow for those who knew him and what he represented for the struggle. I met him in 1985 and worked with him in the political department. He was certainly a firebrand and you could see the potential in him. Of course, he was younger than us, but very witty, very intelligent. He really had the qualities of revolutionary leadership when you met him. Because of his quality, he was able to rise up the ranks very fast. It is a very big loss for the country. He was full of promise. NRM-O spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo owe to him as a very consistent person. It is chilling to lose a person at 42 when his stars are beginning to shine. He was frank. And secondly, he was brilliant. He was an inspiration to many of us. Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Ekanya says to have known him long before becoming a Member of Parliament; during my days at So before I joined politics, I was close to him. I am really like a family member. Jim Muhwezi remembers him as a brilliant security officer and lawyer and eloquent debater, a man with a bright future and very friendly as well. I think his greatest moment was during a debate in the CA; he advanced an interpretation about the movement political system, which wasn't accepted, but it was a brilliant interpretation and analogy of the movement system. Amama Mbabazi con as shocking as it is terrible. The reality of that has not fully sunk in. Brig Mayombo has been a young dedicated leader. Very capable, very hardworking and totally reliable and it is just mind boggling that Mayombo is dead. But he has been a strugglist and he subscribed and believed in the cause of the revolution to change our society. And I think the best tribute we can pay to him is to double our efforts and work to achieve those same objectives. Brig. Mayombo had many great moments because he exceeded expectations in his performance. Clearly he was an able person. He worked very well and that explains his accelerated promotion, it was sequential and incremental at each stage, but he clearly deserved it. The untimely death of Brig. Mayombo, left a gap to the UPDF forces, intelligence systems among other services he adored too. May his soul rest in peace and be remembered for the commendable job done for the country and the family Museveni said he had informed Mayombo about the plot to eliminate him and the enemies could have taken the advantage of a health condition Musevevi stand for Investigations after Mayombo`s untimely death By Balaba Asuman, Kampala-Uganda, muuzy6@yahoo.com President Museveni has instituted a team to undertake thorough investigation into the untimely death of brigadier Noble Mayombo after he was identified to been on the hit list of an enemy group in the Col. James Mugira, Lt. Col. Dr. Tugasirwe Rusoke, a toxicology specialist, and another unidentified doctor will be on the team to investigate Mayombo's death. Museveni disagreed with Rev. Canon James who asked to stop investigating Mayombo’s death asserting that he had already started his investigations. Rev. Canon earlier said urged the media and the public to stop discussing the possible cause of his son's death. Museveni affirmed during his speak that he had information that there was a group of people who planned to eliminate influential NRMO cadres with Mayombo being among the second listed. He added that two lines of security investigations have been monitoring some criminals who have a list of key NRMO cadres it wants to eliminate. “There is quite a lot of material on that group of criminally minded people. The material will be availed to the team of investigators I have appointed,” Museveni said. Mayombo succumbed to pancreatitis at Museveni said he had informed Mayombo about the plot to eliminate him and the enemies could have taken the advantage of a health condition the Brigadier had suffered from for many years. Museveni said for more than a decade, Mayombo had had a certain health condition which when well managed would allow him to live longer. The President said that he had received information that Mayombo had not managed well his health condition and that a few months ago, the Brigadier sought permission to go for medical checkup in The President said he was shocked to learn that the Brigadier had a weakness for alcohol. Museveni said he had warned his son Muhoozi and other cadres to stay away from "alcohol, women and thirst for money". He noted that Mayombo was not corrupt citing that some corrupt persons once offered Mayombo a lakeside house, hoping to influence him, but the Brigadier refused. Most eulogies to Mayombo have spoken of his intellectual abilities, affability and hard work.
The Noble Mayombo Fund, was put together to raise money to benefit his family which went up to at least Shs60 million in cash and pledges. Mayombo's burial was attended by both local and foreign dignitaries, including Vice President Gilbert Bukenya, numerous MPs and ministers, delegations from South Sudan, The late Brigadier Mayombo was born 9th April 1965, Joined National Resistance Army in 15th Nov. 1985.
